On November 29, 2024 (Friday), the "Intercultural Communication Improvement Seminar for Companies Accepting Foreign Workers" was held at our university, organized by the Saga Labor Bureau, Hello Work, and the Saga Prefecture Multicultural Coexistence Promotion Division, with cooperation from the SPIR Saga International Exchange Association and the Fukuoka Immigration Bureau Saga Branch. This joint event marks the second time we have held it in collaboration with these organizations, following last year's seminar. This year, approximately 20 of our international students actively participated in the seminar
The seminar aimed to improve the retention rate of foreign workers in Japan. The participating students had the opportunity to interact directly with company representatives, gaining an understanding of the communication barriers arising from cultural and value differences, and learning practical ways to overcome these challenges. Additionally, the seminar included discussions on the support companies can provide to foreign workers regarding the challenges they face while working in foreign companies.
Furthermore, the results of a survey conducted among international students on "Employment and Retention in Japanese Companies" were shared, and the seminar explored key considerations when hiring foreign workers (including preparation for recruitment) as well as the characteristics of companies where foreign workers would like to work long-term.
It is hoped that opportunities for interaction between international students and companies will increase through such seminars in the future. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Saga Prefecture Multicultural Coexistence Promotion Division, as well as the companies and immigration bureau staff, for taking time out of their busy schedules to visit our university and provide our students with valuable opportunities for intercultural understanding. We look forward to your continued support.
